Cuernavaca is the capital city of the state of Morelos located approximately 55 miles, or about 1 hour and 45 minutes by bus, south of Mexico City. Known world-wide as “The City of Eternal Spring,” Cuernavaca boasts the perfect climate, an average year-round temperature of 73º F! With a population of over one million, Cuernavaca is a bustling city within an historic Colonial setting. Cuernavaca is safer than most North American cities in its size and it has none of the major problems associated with Mexico City.
Morelos is one of the safest states in all of Mexico. Cuernavaca - which boasts more than 20 language schools for foreigners - is among the cities exceedingly safe for foreign travelers. Fortunately, Cuernavaca is far removed from the violence in the north and other “hot” spot. The U.S. Dept. of State Travel Alerts state that visitors to the U.S.- Mexico border region, including cities such as Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, and Monterrey need to take precautions, however, these areas are far removed from Cuernavaca. Most are over 1500 miles from our workshop.
This destination is an excellent place to relax, as each year it draws many tourists, as well as Mexico City residents looking to escape from the stress of their workday routines. Cuernavaca is known for its luxurious spas, swimming resorts, magnificent gardens and language schools.
But there is so much more for you or your traveling companions to do while you are in Cuernavaca. There are many cafes, little bars and even a few nightclubs. There is every type of restaurant for every budget – from quesadillas to fine dining, all are wonderful culinary experiences.
Take a stroll through the city and marvel at the magnificent historic buildings, such as the Convento del la Asuncion (Convent of The Assumption), la Capilla de San Jose (San Jose Chapel) and the Palacio de Cortes (Palace of Cortez), the oldest royal building, which houses Diego Rivera murals. Also of interest is the Jardin Borda (Borda Garden), an important city symbol due to its rich history and natural beauty.
In the surrounding areas you’ll find Taxco, Mexico’s “Silver Capital” and Tepozatlan with its wonderful markets, historical buildings and celebrations. Enjoy other wonderful attractions like the water park Las Estacas, where you’ll find crystalline springs surrounded by some of the state’s most beautiful natural scenery; the Zempoala Lagoons, which consists of lagoons, archaeological ruins and forests; and the Xochicalco archaeological zone, declared a World Heritage Site.
I host a trip to either Taxco or Tepoztlan (sometimes both) during your time with us so you have someone with you who knows the area, and the best places to shop and eat!
Bienvenidos!
